Tire Rotations

Quick Lane on Tire Rotations Video Transcript

What is a tire rotation?

Tire rotation is more than just spinning your tires, it's moving them to different positions in order to ensure even wear. Rotation patterns vary depending on your drive system.

Why do I need to do it?

Fact is: tires wear unevenly. The fronts typically wear faster because they steer and stop your car. Tire rotation helps even them out to give you the most life from your tires, maintain traction, and in the long run can help save you money. Remember, not rotating your tires may affect your tire manufacturer's warranty.

But... my tires LOOK fine...

You may not see the wear, but if you wait too long you will... and you might feel it too.

When do I do it?

Regular rotations are key. Rotate your tires every 5,000 to 8,000 miles or as recommended.

What should I know about tires?

The tread on your tires is key to their performance. Good, high quality rubber helps maintain traction, channels water away (which helps prevent hydroplaning), and keeps you moving and stopping safely.

How do I know if they're worn?

Fact is: all tires wear out over time. When you see that the tread is even with the wear bars, or when you do the penny test and can see all of Lincoln's head... you need new tires. It's time to replace them.

How do I maximize my miles?

Proper inflation is critical to even tread wear and maximized fuel economy. Check your tire pressure every month especially as temperatures change. Cold weather can cause a decrease in tire pressure. So remember to make sure they are filled to the PSI rating listed in your driver's side door frame.

Don't forget the spare and have all your tires checked if: your tire warning light comes on, you hit a pot hole, you notice increased vibration, reduced traction, braking, handling, cracked sidewalls, uneven tread wear, or a drop in fuel economy.

How often should I replace them?

It is recommended you replace your tires every 6 years regardless of tread wear.
