2020 Ford Escape
The Ford Escape is completely redesigned for the 2020 model year. It has a roomy interior, sleek curves and smooth lines on the exterior, and is engineered for life on the go. Here's a look at some of the best features you'll find on the new Ford Escape.
Trim Levels
The Escape comes in five new trim levels. The base S comes nicely equipped, but the SE model gives you access to package options like the Sport Premium Package with 19-inch wheels, and black roof rack rails. The SEL is the performance version, well-equipped and ready for any adventure.
The Titanium trim is the fully loaded luxury version that rivals other SUVs in its class. They also have the SE Sport Hybrid, engineered with a perfect blend of performance and economy.
Also new for 2020 is the hands-free power liftgate. Simply wave your foot beneath the sensor with the key fob in your hand or pocket, and the liftgate opens.
Engine
All four engines in the Ford Escape's lineup come equipped with Auto Start-Stop technology. This fuel-saving technology shuts off the engine when idling. It then automatically starts up again when the accelerator is pressed.
The base model uses Ford's 1.5-liter Ecoboost engine. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission the Escape has plenty of get up and go. You can opt for the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine for additional power. This engine is paired with Ford's 8-speed SelectShift transmission, which gives you the option of convenient automatic shifting, or the thrill of a manual shift.
The Escape has a 2.5-liter i-VCT Atkinson Cycle inline 4-cylinder hybrid engine. This is paired with an electronically controlled variable transmission and uses an 88-kW electric motor. It also uses a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery that is conveniently stored beneath the vehicle, rather than taking up premium cabin space.
A second hybrid uses the same powertrain, yet plugs in to recharge. Choose the 110-volt Level 1 charger and recharge in as little as 10 hours. Opt for the 220-volt Level 2 charger and cut that time to 3.5 hours.
Performance
The Escape comes in front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. The AWD models all have an available AWD-Disconnect system. The system monitors road conditions and wheel spin and disconnects the rear axle when AWD isn't necessary.
The 1.5-liter engine tows up to 2,000 pounds. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, when outfitted with the Class II Trailer Tow package, can haul up to 3,500 pounds. Both hybrid engines are rated at 1,500 pounds.
Interior
A new rotary gear shift dial improves front passenger comfort. Sliding rear seats allow for class-leading second-row legroom when fully positioned back. Slide them forward for more cargo space. They also split/fold 60/40 for additional room.
The available Panoramic Vista Roof tilts and slides to bring light and air into the entire cabin.
Safety Features
Standard on the Escape is the Ford Co-Pilot 360, a suite of advanced driver-assist technologies designed to keep you safer on the roads. This suite includes Pre-Collision Assist with Emergency Braking, BLIS with Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane-Keeping, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
