If you are involved in an accident, follow these steps:
Move to a safe spot if you can, turn on your hazard lights and be careful getting out of the vehicle.
Check whether anyone is injured or needs help. If they do, call 911.
Do not admit fault. Collect information from the other driver and any witnesses.
Use your phone's camera to take pictures of the scene and of the road and weather conditions.
Ford's collision guide has a form for recording driver, vehicle, insurance, damage and witness details. Keep a printed copy in your glove compartment.
A collision is stressful enough without the repair process adding to it. Keep these points in mind before any repair starts:
You choose the collision center that repairs your vehicle. Your insurance company cannot force you to use a body shop it
recommends.
You choose the type of parts used in the repair. It is your right to ask for new OEM parts.
You decide when to release your vehicle to a collision center. Repairs do not have to begin before you are ready.
Review the completed estimate before repairs begin. It lists the work to be done and the parts that will be used.
If your insurer declares your vehicle a total loss, you can see what is available for your next Ford in our lease specials on new Fords and new Ford finance offers.
After an accident, you want your Ford to protect you, perform and look like new. Because insurers want to keep repair costs down, they often specify aftermarket, remanufactured or even salvaged parts. Those parts may not have the same fit, finish, quality and durability as Original Ford Parts.
Original Ford Parts are designed and made specifically for your Ford, so they fit precisely and provide long-lasting performance. Today's advanced driver-assist systems also depend on all parts working together for both safety and performance.
