2021 Ford Explorer

The base model XLT comes nicely equipped with many of the creature comforts you want in an SUV. The Limited trim offers additional option packages to enhance your ride, as well as a hybrid version for additional economy. The ST is Ford's sport-designed version that delivers the performance you won't find on other SUVs. The Platinum trim is full of luxury appointments designed to rival any vehicle in the Explorer's class.

The Explorer features a 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. This twin-turbo with direct injection powertrain gets an impressive 365 horsepower, and 380 pound-feet of torque. There is also a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine and a 3.3-liter hybrid engine. The ST engineers the powertrain to deliver an awesome 400 horsepower, 415 pound-feet of torque, and a top speed of 143 miles per hour.

The Explorer now offers a rear-wheel-drive model. This allows for an increase of 600 pounds in towing capacity for a total of 5,600 pounds when paired with the Class III Trailer Tow Package. An Intelligent 4WD with Terrain Management system offers excellent control with seven selectable Drive Modes. Keep it in Normal for your everyday driving. Switch to Trail when you head off the paved roads. Select Deep Snow/Sand for those wintry or sandy surfaces. Use the Slippery mode when the roads are wet or icy. Opt for Sport mode when you want performance driving. The Tow/Haul mode gives you all the torque and power of the Explorer. There's even a new Eco mode for those long drives.

The interior is designed for an active lifestyle. That means the third row folds down for additional storage. With the third row up it seats up to seven. The E-Z Entry second row folds with the push of a button for easy third row access. Driver and front seat both feature Multicontour Seats with Active Motion technology. This allows for easy positioning of the seats based on your preference. The technology includes five massage themes. You can relax in rush hour traffic, or loosen up on those long rides. The Explorer also has an available 10.1-inch LCD Capacitive Portrait Touch screen. Access music, navigation, and more with this responsive system.

Ford's Co-Pilot 360 system is a suite of driver-assist technologies designed for safer driving. The system comes with BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) that keeps an eye on your blind spots. It also has an Automatic Emergency Braking system that applies additional brake pressure in an emergency situation. Ford's Lane-Keeping system helps you stay within marked lanes, and a Rear View Camera helps you see while in reverse.
