Vehicle Maintenance: Brakes
Your brakes are your vehicle's most important safety feature, but just because they're stopping your vehicle doesn't mean they're working their best. In order to stop your car or truck safely, brakes are designed to slowly wear as you use them. That's why regular maintenance of your brake system is so important. Visit your local Quick Lane® Tire & Auto Center anytime for service while you wait and we'll make sure to keep your vehicle stopping. Plus, we offer high-quality brake products and brake fluid.
How do brakes work?
Braking is all about friction. When you push the brake petal pads inside the calipers press against rotors to slow down the vehicle.
How do I know if they're OK?
Fact is: overtime all brakes wear out. When this happens you may feel grinding, a squishy pedal, or steering wheel shudder. You may hear loud squealing sounds, smell a strange odor, or see the brake warning light on your dash.
What if I don't see any signs?
You may not notice any signs, that's why routine inspections are key to safe braking, and they can save you money on costly repairs. Don't let your brakes get to the point of metal on metal.
What is a brake inspection?
During inspection each brake is checked for pad wear, rough spots on rotors, and signs of damage. In some cases rotors can be resurfaced to save money.
How often do I need them?
Service intervals depend on your driving habits, operating conditions, and vehicle type. Remember original genuine parts fit and perform best, and check your brakes every 10,000 miles, or once a year… whichever comes first.
