Driver-Controlled Engine Exhaust Brake with Auto Setting
The driver-controlled engine exhaust brake, incorporated within the turbocharger on the 6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel engine, adjusts the vanes on the exhaust side of the turbocharger to generate engine exhaust back pressure or engine braking. This system is designed to provide the driver with greater vehicle speed and towing control when pulling large or heavy trailers, driving with a large or heavy payload, or traveling steep grades.
Benefits:
- Reduces Brake Usage: Helps minimize maintenance costs by reducing the use of the vehicle's brakes, thereby decreasing brake fade and lining wear.
- Three Driver-Selectable Settings: On, Auto, and Off.
On Setting:
- Activated by pressing the engine brake button until the instrument panel indicator is illuminated.
- Full engine braking is applied any time the driver removes pressure from the accelerator pedal to reduce vehicle speed.
Auto Setting:
- Activated by pressing the engine brake button at any time the vehicle is in the On setting.
- The instrument panel indicator changes to the Automatic Engine Brake icon when active.
- Modulates engine braking as needed to maintain the driver-intended vehicle speed based on accelerator and brake pedal use, eliminating "overbraking."
Off Setting:
- The system default mode each time the vehicle is started.
- Accessible at any time by pressing the engine brake button when in the Auto or On setting.
