The upcoming 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV is the first all-electric car to feature the legendary pony emblem, and the first models are expected to arrive in showrooms in the fall of this year. The all-new vehicle has evolved from a 2015 concept to become a fully-fledged Mustang with the performance you’d expect from that stable. Here’s what we know about the Mach-E so far.
Model Choice
Trim levels for the Mach-E are the Select and Premium models offered with two- or four-wheel drive, the California Route 1 with rear-wheel drive, and the all-wheel-drive only GT. A GT Performance Edition is expected by the summer of 2021. A uniquely-styled First Edition model was available, but it’s no surprise that reservations were quickly filled.
Exterior Design
The Mach-E is an SUV with sleek coupe styling, and there’s no mistaking that it’s a Mustang. A bold and aggressive front end, the long hood, the muscular flowing lines of the profile, and the distinctive three-bar taillights display its heritage. It comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, and features LED headlamps and signature lighting and LED rear sequential turn signals.
An advantage of not having a gas engine is more storage space. The Mach-E has a front trunk, or frunk, that offers a 4.8 cubic foot drainable compartment that can be used for cargo or filled with ice for the perfect tailgate party accessory. The California Route 1 trim provides a panoramic sunroof, while Premium models feature a hands-free power liftgate and 19-inch wheels. The GT gets 20-inch wheels.
Power and Range
From the start, the idea was to create a car with a long travel range, but was also fun to drive with thrilling performance and handling. The Mach-E is offered with a standard battery that gives you a range of up to 230 miles, or an extended range battery with a targeted range of 300 miles. A 10-minute charge using a 150-kW fast charger will take you up to 47 miles.
Power output for the Mach-E starts with 255 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque for the Select trim, which will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just over six seconds. The GT Performance Edition offers an impressive 459 horsepower and 612 pound-feet of torque with a zero to 60 mph time in the mid 3-second range.
Technology
With FordPass, you can use your smartphone to locate your car, unlock and lock the doors, open and close the windows, open the liftgate, and more. Activating the E-Latch system presents you with an illuminated one-touch button to open the door. The latest generation of the Sync multimedia system has a 15.5-inch touch screen and can learn and adapt to your preferences.
The Mach-E offers three driving modes called Whisper, Engage, and Unbridled, each of which adjusts the driving dynamics to create a unique experience. Your sensory experience is also enhanced by the use of sound, ambient lighting changes, and dynamic animations in the 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.
Watch out for the arrival of the Mustang Mach-E at Mike Dorian Ford. This stunning car is sure to quickly become a modern classic.
